The Education 2030 Framework for Action called on countries to establish “appropriate intermediate benchmarks ( for 2020 and 2025)” for the SDG indicators, seeing them as indispensable for addressing the accountability deficit with longer-term targets. The aim of SDG 4 benchmark indicators is to serve as a framework to identify and support national actions to address any data and policy gaps and to help address common challenges by exchange of best practices, gathering and dissemination of information on such practices and providing support for policy reforms.

The advanced preparatory workshop is conducted online. The workshop is over 2 days (2 hours per day), and consists of 3 main sessions including time for group work and discussions. The importance of the workshop is to help countries to understand better the SDG4 concepts and clarify technical issues related to thematic indicators, availability and use of data for certain indicators and some issues to consider while selecting national SDG4 benchmark indicators.
